1. Châteraisé
True dessert lovers would have already made their way over to Gurney Plaza to try out Châteraisé. A popular dessert chain originating from Japan, this is the very first outlet here in Penang. This means that we get to savour a wide array of Japanese desserts that aren’t just adorable, but delectable at the same time. One of the must-try item here is the Legendary Fresh Cream Cake. Aside from that, they also have matcha pastries, Taiyaki ice cream, macarons, cream puff and more. There’s already a 2-hour snaking queue daily so head there early if you want to try out their desserts!

2. Ren Qin Wei 人情味
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and we all know that a good breakfast entails a productive day ahead. If you reside in Bukit Mertajam, then you’ve got a new Dim Sum spot to check out this month. Ren Qin Wei 人情味 is a brand new breakfast spot that serves mainly Hong Kong Dim Sum. With a simple, airy yet spacious environment, you’ll get to enjoy a really good breakfast before kickstarting your day.

Another new dessert spot in the heart of Georgetown is this minimalist Muji-inspired cafe known as Haru. Aside from being a cafe, Haru is also a stationery shop. The menu here at Haru is largely Japanese inspired, serving items such as Poke Bowls, Rice Bowls, as well as some sweet and savoury Liege waffles. Additionally, Haru Cheesecake is the signature item here that goes well with their unique beverages like Lavender Chamomile, Passion Espresso and more.

4. 815 [Paliro]
Everyone is a dessert lover at heart. In fact, there’s even a saying that mentioned we each have 2 stomachs whereby one is especially for desserts per se. 815 [Paliro] is a modern Korean restaurant that serves the Korean version of French macarons, Ddungcaron. Ddungcarons are essentially less sweet but with thick creamy fillings. This cafe also serves other Korean fusion dishes here such as Buldak Pasta and more. 5. Stairs Specialty Coffee
The next new spot to visit in Penang this month is none other than Stairs Specialty Coffee. If you consider yourselves a coffee enthusiast, then Stairs Specialty Coffee should be on your radar. Here, you’ll get vacuum filtered coffee, hand-brew filtered coffee and more. To pair the entire specialty coffee experience, you can find desserts like Hokkaido Green Tea, Australian Lamington Cake, and more. Also, do take note that a reservation is required before visiting.

6. Isaac Toast Pop Up @ Hold Up Cafe
Everyone loves a good toast, right? Be it a quick on-the-go breakfast or as a light dinner, toasts are perfect. And here in Penang, this popular Korean sandwich shop, Isaac Toast is having a pop-up store for only 1 month! Just head over to Hold Up Cafe at Georgetown and get your dose of saliva-drooling sandwiches. Pick from Kimchi Chicken Special or Turkey Chicken Slice Special and pair it with a cup of coffee for an additional RM5. Now you have one more spot that will fill up your tummy.

7. Emperor Villa
Emperor Villa is a newly opened breakfast spot over at Sungai Ara. But, there’s a twist, you’ll need to walk approximately 45 minutes before reaching the peak whereby Emperor Villa is located. Serving a few breakfast options like the classic Toast & Egg with Coffee, you can also find Nasi Lemak and some stir-fry noodles here. So, what do you say? Take a walk before indulging? Oh, and here’s a pro tip: start your walk earlier and try to reach before 8am to avoid the crowd.

8. Shin Cafe House
Let’s keep the novelty wheel spinning with this home-based Japanese cafe over at Perai. Shin Cafe House offers everything Japanese including Sushi Platter, Ramen, Omu Rice as well as Donburi. Serving Japanese fares using only premium quality ingredients, this seemingly ordinary neighbourhood cafe certainly exceeds one’s expectation. 9. Osmanthus Alley
Many of us know Hin Bus Depot as a spot for plenty of happening activities. On Sundays, Hin Bus Depot transforms into a space with creative pop-up stores that are perfect to drop by. Did you guys know that there’s actually this Kochabi cafe that serves lip-smacking Taiwanese fares? Osmanthus Alley Restaurant is located right next to Wholey Wonder. Here, you can find items like noodles, simple stir-fry dishes as well as a crowd-favourite Tang Yuan.

10. No Meat Ok Mou

11. Navy Specialty Coffee
Can we all just agree that the cafe scene in Penang is still on the rise? Let’s make way for Navy Specialty Coffee over at Arena Curve, Bayan Baru. Here, you can find the usual cafe fares such as pasta, a few beverages as well as an adequate dessert menu with donuts, cakes, and muffins. As a new cafe in town, Navy Specialty Coffee boasts a minimal interior that’s just right for a weekend coffee and chill hangout with your friends.
