Hong Kong MICHELIN Kwan Kee Store Is Finally Here In Penang
Let’s start off with some background introduction. Kwan Kee Store is a popular pastry shop established in 1965 in Hong Kong and they take pride in serving handmade pastries using stone-milled rice flour. This crucial step produces pastries that are bouncier and does not stick to the teeth upon consuming. They were also recognised as Hong Kong Michelin Recommended Street Food for 6 consecutive years from 2016-2021. In 2023, Kwan Kee Store opened its first store in Malaysia, over in SS2, Kuala Lumpur.
Signature Pastries Made With Stone-Milled Rice Flour
This year, they’ve finally opened their first store right here in Penang and we could not be more excited for this opening. Here’s a fun fact: Kwan Kee offers free samples of their pastries so you get to try them out before making your purchase. Now, onto the most anticipated part of this article, the signature pastries. Kwan Kee Store stands out for serving not one but three types of Rice Bowl Cakes from RM4.90; Brown Sugar Red Bean, White Sugar Red Bean, and Sweet Potato.Â

If you prefer pastries with oozing filling, Kwan Kee Store also has Pudding Rice Bread made using Marukyu Koyamaen Matcha with stretchy mochi and Original Cream Cheese flavour.
Aside from that, they also have newly-launched Rice Toast Series that are low in calories and fat. They come in a variety of flavours including Truffle Egg Mayo, 100% Pistachio, Valhorna Gunaja 70% Dark Chocolate and Fresh Blueberry Cream. Our personal favourite has got to be the 100% Pistachio Rice Toast that’s rich and nutty. If you prefer something tangy, trust us, go for the Fresh Blueberry Cream Rice Toast.Â
