It’s been quite some time since we last heard of a new hospital opening on the island. The good news is, Kek Lok Si Charitable Hospital, is set to open its doors to the public tomorrow, on the 18th of July 2021. Apparently, they’re also the first Buddhist non-profit hospital to open in Malaysia.
Malaysia’s First Buddhist Non-Profit Hospital, Kek Lok Si Charitable Hospital Is Opening Tomorrow:
Initially announced to open in May, the Buddhist charitable hospital is finally opening tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. Nestled on the grounds of Kek Lok Si Temple, the 50-bed hospital is open only to Malaysians regardless of skin colour and religion. Meaning to say, they do not accept medical tourists.
However, if there’s an emergency case involving a foreigner, he or she will be treated and make sure their condition is stable before being transferred to other hospitals. Kek Lok Si Temple also added that medical fees will be the lowest as compared to other private or non-profit hospitals. That is because the hospital relies fully on public donations and contributions.
Although a small-scale hospital, the centre is equipped with avant-garde technologies and facilities. This includes X-ray machines, CT scanners, modular critical care, and a hemodialysis center.
At the moment, Kek Lok Si Charitable Hospital does not accept Covid-19, but swab tests are available for those who display symptoms. Also, patients who couldn’t afford to pay for their medical bills can apply for subsidy from Yayasan Kek Lok Si.
Hence, the centre is open for donations from the public. Those who wish to contribute will be exempted from tax, given with a donation of RM50 and above.
