It has been over a year since Malaysian began the battle with the pandemic. Throughout this span of time, we saw quite a number of industries being affected. They include F&B, travel, aviation, and many more. Among these industries, the travel industry is the one that appears quite severely affected. This has caused a few hotels in Penang to cease operations. Hotel Royal Penang is one that will be adding to the list of hotel closures.
Hotel Royal Penang Is Closing This November
According to News Straits Times, a 2-month notice of retrenchment was issued to all employees at the hotel. The last day of employment will be on 14th November 2021.
In addition to that, TheStar has confirmed that the reason for closure is largely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Hence, Hotel Royal Penang will be closing indefinitely for restructuring.
Hotel Royal Penang is a 4-star hotel strategically located along Jalan Larut. It boasts 276 rooms and an incredible Penang heritage city view. While the hotel is set to close its doors, the Penang Plaza will remain open to the public.
Hotel Royal Penang is owned by Hotel Royal Limited with a total of 8 hotels in Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand.
