Kopitiam is one of the most important assets for local Penangites. It is a place where local enjoy their favourite food with their family and friends. Yup, this is our way of life! After posts on the cafe or dessert in Penang, we wanted to do something local as well which is true to our heart. And in today’s food guide, we are featuring Ho Ping Kopitiam.
Kopitiam in Penang – Ho Ping
To us, a great kopitiam is always better if it’s filled with good coffee, tea, half boiled egg and some local delights. And trust us, Ho Ping didn’t disappoint. We tasted most of the food at Ho Ping Kopitam and we love it (we must say).
#1 Lobak
To kickstart our meal, we got ourselves the very famous – lobak. The traditional lobak stall prides itself as one of the oldest stalls in Penang. And guess what? It’s superb for group sharing and our friends love it so much!
The marinated pork is wrapped with bean curd skin and enriched with Chinese five-spices. Be it the gooey sauce or sweet and spicy chilli sauce, both complement the flavorful meat.
#2 Char Siew Rice
Char Siew Rice at Ho Ping Kopitiam is one of my personal favourites during the visit. Make sure you order this one! The char siew at this stall is very flavourful and paired with the sweet gravy, one can expect only good things from ordering a plate of Char Siew rice from this stall.
#3 Char Hor Fun
The next food you must try is Char Hor Fun! The key here is the gravy which is infused with eggs, forming a gooey concoction to complement the abundance of meat morsels and noodles. Friendly reminder, do not give a pass to this dish! 😛
#4 Pork Noodle
Truth to be told, the chef is from one of the most legendary Pork Noodle stores in Penang. What made us love this dish is the mouth-watering broth and minced meat. Aww! We just can’t get enough.
#5 Char Koay Teow
Look at the big prawn! What can we ask for more right? The Char Koay Teow really met our standard and truly deserve its name in one of the best Char Koay Teow in Penang.
#6 Mee Goreng
Mee goreng is one of the must-try food in Penang! Don’t leave without trying this one, my friends!
#7 Char Siew Bao
If your tummy is calling already, make sure to order light food from the bao stall! They have a wide selection of bao for you to satisfy your tummy! We ordered char siew bao and we love it! The filling’s taste is so great and appetizing!
#8 Koay Teow Th’ng
Last but not least, we got koay teow th’ng in our 8 food to try at this kopitiam. In sum, we’re glad to have Ho Ping Kopitiam situated in the heart of the city. While the place has a pretty impressive array of food stalls, crowds throng here for lobak, char siew rice and pork noodle. And we think you should try them too.
