Listen up, Penangites! Thaipusam is on the way, so you know the drill. Starting from 24 to 26 January, there will be several road closures occurring for the Silver Chariot and Golden Chariot procession in conjunction with Thaipusam 2024. Therefore, we have gathered the full list of road closures so you plan your journey around it!
Main Roads That’ll Be Closed In Penang This Thaipusam 2024
According to the chairman of Penang Hindu Endowment Board (PHEB), RSN Rayer, this year’s Thaipusam celebration will be extra special as both the silver and golden chariot will be travelling almost together, with a distance of 1km between each other.
“This would be the Unity Thaipusam year where both chariots come together,” he said.
On 24th January, the procession will begin on Lebuh Queen, starting at 6:30am. The Golden Chariot will travel from Arulmigu Sri Maha Mariamman Temple to the Penang Waterfall Temple at Jalan Kebun Bungah.
On 26th January, the Golden Chariot will travel back to Lebuh Queen at around 6:00pm.

Celebrate Thaipusam 2024 Peacefully By Planning Your Journey Ahead
This annual event is expecting a total number of over 1 million devotees, with 150 ‘thaneer panthal’ (refreshment stalls) or free food and drink distribution tents lined up along the procession route. For those planning to attend the processions, do remember to stay safe and respectful by refraining from consuming alcohol or lighting firecrackers.
