Top of the day to y’all! The things Penangites wanted most are now making their way onto IKEA! You didn’t see it wrongly, entertainment, dining and big-name retailers will soon crank up the heat at Batu Kawan!
Big-Name Retailers And More Are Entering IKEA Anchors Mall
When IKEA was first announced to be opened at Batu Kawan, all the Penangites were very excited and couldn’t sleep for weeks! It wasn’t long until we realized the potential at Batu Kawan is far beyond our expectations when there were rumors about shopping malls and cinemas setting foot in the same area.
Our patience paid off as it was just announced that IKEA Southeast Asia (SEA) is currently preparing to set up the first phase of a shopping center that will link all of us to blue-box home furnishing store in Northern Malaysia!
The retail extension will open accordingly from this day onwards until the end of 2019. Here’s an approximation for you to imagine how many tenants have already set its course, 85% of the space is already leased! Let’s start with this, Harvey Norman will bring its concept of a flagship superstore somewhere afar from Klang Valley for the first time! 7-Eleven, Project Rock and Sports Direct are a few examples of the tenants that will open their door for all of us soon.
Without a doubt, these tenants are going to bring convenience to most of us as the Shopping Centre and Mixed-Use Director of IKEA SEA, Christian Olofsson mentioned: “We look for tenants that meet needs of the people in our community”. Penangites were seen to often visit IKEA on lunch breaks and dinner time, that’s why F&B outlets and convenient grab-and-go services will be focused. In order to serve the growing township of Batu Kawan, other leisure, entertainment, and sporting retailers are also seen as the opportunities, added by Christian Olofsson.
Vervea, the commercial precinct with 3 and 4 story shop offices is now up for business. With this on the hand, we’d be expecting lots of local retailers and corporate entities making their move in no time. Furthermore, the 38,000 square feet trade center named Vervea Trade & Exhibition Center (VTEC) that is located in the heart of Vervea compromises multifaceted event halls, function rooms, food preparation and service areas that cater for large scale trade fairs and events.
With this being said, people will be visiting Batu Kawan more than just often, where, amazingly large events and countless shops that will soon plant themselves right before our eyes!
