Good day foodies! If there’s one thing we all miss during MCO, it has definitely got to be Korean food, right? The joy of savouring a bowl of Ramyun, or Kimchi Stew is long gone due to the extension of MCO. So, what if we tell you that you can actually have a Korean food fest at home? No, we’re not kidding, because we just found a rather simple rice cake (Toppokki or Tteobokki) recipe that will satisfy all your Korean food cravings.
Make Your Own Tteobokki At Home With This Simple Recipe
Anyone who has tasted rice cakes will know that they’re irresistible mainly due to its chewiness. As each rice cake is slathered with Gochujang Sauce, the sweet and spicy flavours truly complete the Tteobokki. If you miss chewing on rice cakes, then today’s recipe is for you. Rice Cake
Ingredients
- 1 cup glutinous rice flour
- 3 tbsp of wheat flour
- 1 pinch of salt
- A little sesame oil
- Warm water
Step 1: Mix all the ingredients and knead until they form a dough (the dough isn’t supposed to be sticky)
Step 2: Then, roll the dough vertically to create long strips of rice cake and cut into 1-inch portion
Step 3: Brush sesame oil on a plate and place the rice cakes on the plate then steam for 5 minutes (optional to boil)
Step 4: After 5 minutes, transfer the rice cakes into a bowl of cold water to retain the tender texture
Toppoki Sauce
Ingredients
- 3 cloves of chopped onion
- Cooking oil
- Chilli paste (1 tbsp)
- Tomato Sauce (1 tbsp)
- Chilli Sauce (1 tbsp)
- Oyster Sauce (1 tbsp)
- Sugar (to tasting)
- Chicken Stock (1 tsp)
Step 1: Heat up the cooking oil, add in chopped onion and fry till fragrant
Step 2: Add in chilli paste, tomato sauce, chilli sauce, oyster sauce, sugar and chicken stock
Step 3: Mix the sauces together until it forms a thick consistency
Step 4: Add in rice cakes and other preferred ingredients such as hotdogs and cook for a few minutes
Tip: You can also add on a boiled egg to the dish.

I’ve tried a few other recipes to make the rice cakes but its not working but this one work wonder!!! The ingredient is easy to find in Malaysia so worth trying to make it.
