When it comes to food, some of us might find that being able to watch the entire cooking process from start to finish makes a meal more satisfying. This is especially true for all steamboat or hotpot lovers out there. Now if you’re looking for a steamboat place that does not burn any hole in your pockets, check out Da San Charcoal Steamboat located at Bukit Mertajam, Penang.
Da San Steamboat: Traditional Yin-Yang Charcoal Claypot Steamboat In Penang
Being a relatively new steamboat spot in town, what makes Da San Charcoal Steamboat unique is that they are the first in Penang to serve Yin Yang clay pot steamboat using briquettes charcoal that they manufacture themselves! This means that you get to savour not 1 but 2 broths at the same time over charcoal used that are long-lasting and sparkless.
Da San’s Yin Yang Charcoal Claypot Steamboat comes with Milky Fish Head and Thai Tom Yum broth. Both broths are boiled from scratch for up to 10 hours. Our personal favourite is the Thai Tom Yum broth that uses ingredients imported directly from Thailand. It’s sour, spicy and you will definitely want more of it.
In addition to this, they serve steamboat in sturdy clay pots that maintain a high heat to preserve the aroma of the broth. So ultimately, what you get is a broth that’s both rich and fragrant at the same time. You can also concoct your very own dipping sauces here.
When it comes to the steamboat ingredients at Da San, we really enjoyed pairing their crispy fish skin with the broth. Just lightly dip the fish skin into either broth and upon the first bite, you’ll still hear the crispy crackle. Their prawn paste is worth a shot too as they make it in-house from scratch.
Now if you’re feeling slightly under the steamboat weather, Da San also serves individual bowls of a la carte noodles in the choice of Milky Broth or Thai Tom Yum as well. For this option, you can pick the ingredients from seafood, fish, or meatballs.
Who’s Up For A Steamboat Feast?
