And today, we will be talking about this iconic Pork Intestine Porridge that has been around for almost 50 years at Chowrasta Market, Penang.
Chowrasta Market Kochabi Pork Intestine Porridge Since 1974
When a stall is being named after the location on which it is located, this is a testament to how good the food is. Known humbly by locals as Chowrasta Pork Intestine Porridge, this stall dates back to our parent’s generation. If you ask them, they’ll tell you this is indeed one of the best stalls in Penang for delicious Pork Intestine Porridge.

Commonly known as Chee Cheong Chok, a bowl of Pig Intestine Porridge is a thick, flavourful congee that’s cooked with pig innards and comes with deep-fried pig intestines as the topping.

Operating in the morning at Chowrasta Market, Mr. Wan Fook Chan is the man helming this stall. In fact, he has been selling this delicacy for almost 5 decades after taking over the trade from his father.

If you’re looking to try out one of the best Chee Cheong Chok in Penang, you have to drop by early as the stall opens in the early morning and sells out pretty quickly. So, it’s best to drop by before 10 am!

Essentially, there are 2 types of Pig Intestine porridge offered here. One has pig’s blood cubes incorporated into the porridge while the other doesn’t. Both versions are smooth and silky as Mr. Wan spends 2 hours slow-cooking the porridge.
