One of Penang’s iconic street food is Wan Tan Mee. Yes, you can find a number of Wan Tan Mee stalls scattered all over Penang. But, have you ever tried out this particular stall along Weld Quay that serves not one but three different flavours of Wan Tan Mee all on one plate? If your answer is no, then it’s time you head over to Chew Jetty Cafe at Weld Quay and try it out for yourself.
Chew Jetty Cafe: Penang’s One And Only Tri-Flavoured Wan Tan Mee
At this seemingly ordinary kopitiam that’s located along the bustling Weld Quay is Penang’s one and only stall that offers a unique menu: 3 Flavours Wan Tan Mee. For its one-of-a-kind menu, this stall has garnered the attention of both local media like ntv7 as well as celebrities.
In making a plate of tri-flavoured Wan Tan Mee, the owner, Mr. Winner Ho will first blanch the Wan Tan noodles that are sourced all the way from Ipoh. The key to this unique dish lies in its homemade special sauce. The first portion of noodles is mixed with sesame oil, followed by dark soy sauce and finally Sichuan Mala pepper.
Wait, Mala Wan Tan noodles? Yes, you’ve read it right. In fact, you can even choose the spiciness level too. If you have a high tolerance for spicy food, then go ahead and put your tastebuds to the test.
Once the noodles are mixed with the 3 different types of sauces, the garnishing will be added that consists of pork lards, barbecue pork slices (Char Siew), spring onions and Fried Wan Tan.
Each plate comes with a small bowl of soup with 4 pieces of juicy, plump Wan Tan. And once you take a bite into the Wan Tan, you’ll notice that it comes wrapped with chestnut slices. Yum.
As for the noodles, it’s best enjoyed separately on their own without mixing them all together. First, try the Sesame Oil noodle followed by Dark Soy Sauce and end it with the Mala noodle. This way, you’ll actually get to taste the difference in each type of noodle.

For All The Wan Tan Mee Lovers Out There
Personally, we really love the perfectly-cooked tender noodles and how each flavour has its own distinct taste. It’s definitely a unique food in Penang that one can enjoy on a regular basis.
