You might have heard of Cat Island in Japan, but did you know that we have our own cat-filled beach here in Penang? That’s right fellow cat lovers. Located at the fishing village in Teluk Bahang, this cat sanctuary allows its feline residents to roam free along the whole beach.
The Cat Beach Sanctuary, Home To Over 300 Cats
Run by a non-profit organization (NGO), the Cat Lovers International Society, this cat sanctuary was created to provide shelter and care to stray and rescued cats. To those that are looking for a meaningful weekend, you can even sign up as a volunteer here!
You might be thinking, “Why is it located at a beach?”. As it turns out, the local fishermen have been caring for stray cats there for decades. Additionally, ever since the Penang State government has implemented the Zero Stray Policy in 2014, the sanctuary becomes one of the most important cat shelters in Penang. As of now, they care for over 300 cats and kittens.
Free Entry And Adoption!
In all honesty, the sanctuary is a mood booster. You can casually sit by the beach and enjoy the warm company of adorable furballs all day long. It is free to enter and you are welcome to donate to the cause. The best part is, you can even get yourself a new best friend there FOR FREE.
