This 5.5 kilometres paired road project at Bukit Kukus, Penang links Paya Terubong and Relau. At the height of 59m from pile caps, it has become the highest elevated highway in Malaysia after Rawang Bypass. The project is divided into 3 sections where each is handled by MBPP (3.3km), PLB Land Sdn Bhd (1.4km), and Geo Valley Sdn Bhd (0.8km).

Fortunately, MBPP has successfully completed their section after 6 years. According to Transport and Infrastructure Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari, the delay was due to the landslide incident, the Covid-19 lockdown and some technical issues involving additional work. Nevertheless, road users can finally use this route starting 13th January 2022.

“We hope this iconic project will be able to solve traffic congestion at a rate of up to 30%,” Zairil told. “This project is the state government’s legacy for the people of Penang. Hopefully, it will bring many benefits to the road users, especially residents of Balik Pulau, Paya Terubong and nearby areas.”
