Ask any Penangite what Abu Mamak is famous for and you likely to hear “the boss is super friendly”. The real magic happens when you are paying the bill. I suppose the boss called Abu and I always enjoy watching him counting how much my food cost.
If the boss like you, minor discount will be given too! Isn’t it a great thing? So, if you’re hungry late night but don’t know where to eat, think Abu Mamak!

2. Pos Laju Burger
Pos Laju Burger is one of my burger in town! Which one should I order? Try the “Papa’s Special”. Trust me, it’s awesomely tasty. The burger’s meat is yummy and juicy matches perfectly with its delicious topping such as potato salad.
Be prepared for long queue though. Well, fret not, enjoy a cup of teh tarik and chit-chating with your friends while waiting.

3. Ayer Itam Duck Rice
Ayer Itam duck rice is once featured in our 24 hours food guide list. It’s located in Ayer Itam Annex pasar and only open at late night. The duck is well marinated, satisfaction guaranteed.

4. Jiao Sai Maggi Goreng
Jiao Sai literally means “bird shit” in hokkien because pigeons’ droppings were everywhere around their old location. Don’t let it turns you off my friends. They’ve moved and now located at Jalan Abu Siti.
Jiao Sia is the famous supper spots for Penangites. A great place to hang out at night when the pub closes but you don’t want to go home just yet.

5. Deen Maju Nasi Kandar
Next one in our list Deen Maju Nasi Kandar. It’s one of the best nasi kandar in town. If your tummy allow, pick Deen Maju as your next-to-go supper spot.

6. Nasi Kandar @ Wah Meng Cafe
This gem is Air Itam’s best kept secret. When the clock strikes at around 2AM, you can easily spot enthusiastic nasi kandar lover queuing in front of Wah Meng Cafe.

7. Nasi Tomato Batu Lanchang
This gem hides inside Flat Taman Seri Damain, right opposite Batu Lanchang wet market. Another must try supper if you hungry at night! The shop starts its operation at around 10PM. Pro tip: be there as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

8. Dhoby Ghaut Food Court
Dhoby Ghaut Food Court aka 洗布桥 is known for its atmosphere for buzz and good grub among the late night food hunters. Must eats at Dhoby Ghaut are Duck Meat Koay Teow Thng and Curry Mee. If you are at Bayan Lepas area and wondering what to eat, you should try this food court.

9. La Mei Zi Steamboat
La Mei Zi is one of the local to go places after their drinks at pubs or clubs. There are different types of soup base available at La Mei Zi such as old duck, tom yum, chicken soup and etc. For instance, old duck soup is highly recommended.

10. Permata Claypot
Permata Claypot is one of the legendary claypot noodle seller in Paya Terubong. It’s also known as 珍珠粉 in Chinese. This stall don’t have proper operating hour and the boss only open when he’s happy.
Pro tip: always call first if you want to try it. If they don’t open, try again tomorrow. That’s pretty much what we can do.

11. Disco Fresh Milk
What’s better than one fresh milk before sleep right?
Disco Fresh Milk serves wide variety of milk combination. My all-time favorite is Plain + Egg + Nestum! What about you?

Sup Hameed is framed as one of the best soup seller in Penang. Shouldn’t miss this street food when you are in Penang.

13. Burger Ayam Goreng NJoy
Long queue is expected but definitely worth the wait. NJoy burger has different colors of burger buns, amazing ‘banjir‘ sauces and delectable chicken!

14. Green House Hokkien Mee
They offer one of the best Hokkien Mee in Penang. You can add extra toppings to the noodle. I like to have extra Roasted Pork and Egg to be added into the noodle.

15. Old Green House Kopitiam
While it was the famous prawn mee that drew us and made us try this place, it was the steamed chicken and bah kut teh that blew us away. We personally do not like the famous prawn mee here, as it’s over priced and not delicious as before.
Must try dishes are bah kut teh and steamed chicken with porridge.

16. Raja Uda Tom Yum
If you prefer your tom yum is in sweet and sour taste rather than spicy, give Raja Uda Tom Yum a go.

17. BM Duck Egg Char Koay Teow
A delicious mess that comes laden with wok-hei and flavoured with soy sauce and pork lard.

18. BM Pek Kong Cheng
Pek Kong Cheng has many stalls that serve local authentic food. Some of the must try food during supper time are curry rice, koay teow thng, hokkien mee and wan tan mee.

In short, Penang, being the best city for food, has abundant eateries that spring to life when the clock strikes 12. There’s no point wasting those calories on food that aren’t delicious right, so make it count.

1. The Chai Koay Kok in Lorong Macalister, from 7.15 am to 1 pm. There are 2 coffee shops, 1 just selling one Koay Teow Th’ng 粿条汤. 2nd coffee shop is just 2 shops away, you can find lots of street food, Chee Cheong Fun,Char Koay Teow 炒粿條and so on. Char Koay Kak 炒粿 角 is in between 2 coffee shops as it is on the road side.
2. Restaurant Taman Emas. Close on Monday , Tues – Sunday 12pm-5pm,They have Laksa, Deep fried Poi Pia, kuih, chee cheong Fun , curry mee and Fried Koay Teow with egg or duck egg. AND Economy rice with many dishes, the lady is a Siam lady. More on Siam cooking and yummy ! It is at 1, Jalan Gottlieb, George Town, 10350 George Town, Pulau Pinang,
with all due respect, burger pos laju @ Jelutong, was a HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE.
I reckon anyone seeing this to not waste their time, money, to create a huge regret trying out their burger.
