Penangites, remember how we used to hang out with friends until late night and catch live football matches with Teh O’ Limau Ais at mamak stalls? Those were the days before we had to adapt to the new norm. Well here’s the latest update for you foodies. One of the best supper spot in Penang, Abu Mamak has recently relocated to Weld Quay.
Famous Abu Mamak in Penang Has Relocated to Weld Quay:
A local go-to place for supper, Abu Mamak was once crowded with young chaps at their OG location, along Jalan Macalister. It was an unpretentious spot to fix one’s late night cravings without thinning the wallet. They’re famous for their Maggie Goreng, Roti Canai and impeccable service. Is there anyone like us who likes to watch Abu count the bill? (He’ll always give discount!)
Like many local and small businesses who were affected by the pandemic, Abu Mamak struggled to stay afloat. They could no longer keep up with the expensive rent, hence the relocation. They’re now located at Kompleks Makanan Medanika Pengkalan Weld, just beside Tan Chong Technical Institute Penang.
Though the rent is cheaper at the current location, it is significantly less crowded due to the fact that many are not aware of the relocation. Since it’s a fresh start for them, many items on the menu are not available, including drinks. They’ll only be serving Maggie Goreng and Roti Canai at the moment. Also, some changes on their operating hours. Abu Mamak now operates from Monday to Friday, 6 am to 2 pm only.
