Our personal favourite is the Tom Yam Maggi Goreng with crispy fried chicken as it’s a plate of delicious, not-to-be-missed perfection. The list of ‘Roti’ items here is endless too, making it the ideal supper spot to check out when in Penang.

Here’s a pro tip: go for their Super Crunchy Burger with Fried Chicken and you will never go back. First, the size of this burger is incredible and can even be enough to be shared between 2 persons. One bite and you’ll taste that the battered fried chicken is perfectly seasoned and when sandwiched between fluffy burger buns, it’s heavenly.

3. KSB Nur

Another popular Mamak supper spot in Penang is KSB Nur which is operated by Abu’s sibling. Here, the Maggi Goreng Special is superb as it comes with crispy Ayam Goreng and Telur Mata. They also serve an array of Roti items here like Roti Canai, Roti Tisu, Roti Telur, and more. For drinks, you have got to order their Milo Special which comes topped with Milo powder. The best combo is Maggi Goreng Special and Milo Special and you’ll get both savoury and sweet in one meal.

4. Dai Tao Lala Pot

If you’re a huge fan of ‘Lala Pou’ or Lala Pot, then we’re sure you must have definitely tried the famous Dai Tao Lala Pot from KL. Their Penang outlet is located in Bukit Mertajam and we kid you not, once the shop opens, the queue starts forming. Of course, who could resist a hearty and warm pot of freshly cooked clams bursting with flavour? They also have other steamboat options like Pork Stomach Soup with White Peppercorns and up to 60 side dishes for you to feast on while you lepak with your buddies.

Residents in Batu Lanchang will be no strangers to the infamous Nasi Tomato Batu Lanchang when hunger strikes late at night. The Nasi Tomato here is cooked using natural ingredients making it fluffy and fragrant. As for the dishes, their signatures here are the Kambing Kurma, Ayam Goreng, and Daging Masak Kicap. When it comes to supper, Ramly Burgers will definitely be on our list. Do check out Hinggaq Burger, a humble burger stall established since 2015 in Penang that went viral for serving Ramen Burgers drizzled with a generous amount of cheese sauce. Yes, you’ve read it right, burgers with a side of instant noodles and loaded with cheese sauce. If this is a little too new for you, they also have other types of Ramly Burgers like one with Mozzarella Cheese, Smashed Burger, Fried Chicken and more. Feeling under the burger weather? Go for their Cheese Ramen that consists of Samyang Ramen, Hotdog, and of course Cheese Leleh.

So when you’re craving for Nasi Kandar in the middle of the night, fret not, Nasi Kandar Beratur Original which has been around since 1943 is here to the rescue! You can probably tell from its name that there will be hungry foodies who will ‘beratur’ (or queue) just for a plate of their heavenly Nasi Kandar. In fact, even before the stall opens, there will already be a queue and this itself is a testament that they live up to their name. 8. Kwong Wah Tom Yam

When one is craving for Tom Yam Noodles, we’ll immediately think about crossing the Penang Bridge for a bowl of hearty Tom Yam Noodles. Kwong Wah Tom Yam in Raja Uda, is the go-to place for lip-smacking Tom Yum. First, pick your own ingredients and then choose your noodle type and broth (either clear soup or Tom Yum). Here’s our personal recommendation; Tom Yum Maggi with your preferred choice of ingredients. It’s located right beside Kwong Wah Primary School and it is easily distinguished as there will be a snaking queue. During peak hours, get ready to wait at least 30 minutes as they cook each bowl upon order, but trust us, you won’t regret it.

Here, the tables are set with fresh Lok Lok skewers that are labelled by colour according to their price. Don’t be surprised when you are paired with strangers at the same table but just get a seat, pick your ingredients, and plop them into the boiling hot water right in the middle of the table. Once it’s cooked, don’t forget to also dip the ingredients into their homemade sauces for that extra spicy kick.

If you ask us, we will say the must-order is the Cheesy Nachos that come with torched cheese.
