Residents in Tanjung Bungah swear by this humble roadside burger that has been established for over 20 years. The proprietors; an elderly Chinese couple adds an extra twist to their burgers by adding a HUGE amount of onions in them. The best part, they’re caramelized! This means that the burgers have this added fragrant aroma and crunch to them. Here’s a friendly tip from one foodie to another; their operating hours are less consistent so if you ever get to try their burgers, consider yourselves blessed with foodie luck.

2. Ah Soon Char Koay Teow
Georgetown has the beloved Siam Road Char Koay Teow and Tanjung Bungah has our own Ah Soon Char Koay Teow. If you look closer, the two resembles one another since they’re both awesomely good and they both opt for a charcoal-fired stove. This plate of Char Koay Teow also has large, fresh prawns as well as Chinese sausages in them for that extra kick of aroma. Perhaps you’re not feeling the CKT vibes, then you can opt for the Koay Teow Thng which is equally on par in terms of taste.

Somehow, when we think of this landmark, our thoughts immediately associate it with Lidiana Nasi Melayu because it’s located right opposite of the Floating Mosque. Enough of the Nasi Kandar hype, it’s time for us to put our tastebuds through the Nasi Melayu ride. Nasi Melayu is a type of local delight where patrons can hands-on, pick their desired dishes. This means your plate of rice is your canvas, so feel free to paint them with vibrant, aromatic curry gravy!

If you’re a local around the area, you’ll know that this stall constantly sells out off ‘Pisang Goreng’, or fried banana. At this stall, the entire banana is dipped into their homemade batter and then dipped fried for a crispy, crunchy, golden brown perfection. We’d highly recommend you guys to try out their Ti Kueh and Fried Cempedak as they are all equally delicious.

7. Yok Fong Cafe Mee Goreng

The Mee Goreng here is slightly wet but the usual ingredients in Mee Goreng are retained, such as bean sprouts, fritters, squid, potatoes, eggs and topped with greens. WAIT! Before you start savouring this plate of beauty, squeeze a little lime, or ‘Limau Lipis’ for an extra kick of flavour.

9. Lan’s Corner Ikan Bakar
Right next to Sunshine Bay Seafood Restaurant is another seafood gem, Lan’s Corner Ikan Bakar. The Ikan Bakar here topped with in-house sambal has that spicy kick that really takes its immediate toll on your throat. Of course, you have been warned upon walking into the joint as it’s literally written there ‘Sambai Meletop Baq Hang’, meaning the Sambal is so delicious it’s the bomb of the spot. Of course, you’ve got to try their signature Ikan Bakar but don’t forget to also order the Sotong Bakar which has a sweet-spicy gravy. Squeeze the lime to it and you’ll get a mixture of sweet, sour and spicy explosion on your tastebuds.

Let’s focus on the Wan Tan Mee here, whereby you get al dente noodles with tender BBQ pork (char siew) as well as crispy fried wantons.
