Ramadan Bazaar is back! Yes friends, the annual event that we all look forward to is making a comeback this year after taking a break in 2020. Oh, how we miss catching a sniff of mixed aromas wafting in the air while browsing through rows upon rows of colourful buka puasa meals. However, we have to remember that the pandemic is still far from over! So, here are 10 Ramadan Bazaar sites in Penang that you can go with strict SOP.
Penang Ramadan Bazaar 2021 Begins On 13th April 2021
As we all know, Ramadan Bazaar will only last a month. And although this is an event for Muslims, you can find people of all walks of life here. It’s a Foodie’s heaven, the bigger the better!
1. Little India
With a mix of Indian and Arabic influences, the Little India Ramadan Bazaar is one of the best places for you to savour colourful, cross-cultural cuisines. This is where you can find briyani, pasembur, samosa, murtabak and more! You will also find big nasi kandar names here such as Tajuddin Hussain, Sultania, A Dawood, and Subaidah.
Address: Lebuh Queen, Georgetown, 10200 Penang.
2. Taman Tun Sardon
Nestled next to Astaka Taman Tun Sardon, this car park will turn into a festive bazaar in the afternoon. Of course, much like any bazaar you can find all sorts of colourful drinks here. But the best-sellers would be Sulaiman Capati and Naza’s Chinese-style char kway teow. Keep your fingers crossed and who knows maybe they will be back this year.
Address: 363, Hilir Pemancar, Taman Tun Sardon, 11700 Gelugor, Pulau Pinang
3. Behind Penang General Hospital
Located at the back of Penang General Hospital, the narrow street will always be filled with loyal patrons. This is where you can get a lot of delectable eats for break fast and the kuih here are top-notch. Meanwhile, delicious desserts that you can find here such as akok and bubur jagung are to die for.
Address: Jalan Residensi, 10990 George Town, Pulau Pinang
4. Bayan Baru
It gets very crowded at Bayan Baru Ramadan Bazaar during peak hours but people don’t seem to mind the queue. Here, both Muslims and Non-Muslims patrons can be found. This is because the bazaar is really big and as we all know, bigger bazaars means more grubs to pick. Not to mention that there are probably more than 100 types of rice-based dishes here such as Nasi Campur and Nasi Briyani.
Address: Masjid Umar Ibnu Al Khattab, 3, Lintang Mayang Pasir 4, Bandar Bayan Baru, 11950 Bayan Lepas, Pulau Pinang
5. Jalan Makloom
One of the most popular food bazaars in Penang is at Jalan Makloom. They have the most complete selection as you can get rice, meehoon, kebabs, fried vegetables, grilled chicken wings, and fruits here. If you are planning to visit this bazaar, make sure to keep your eyes peeled for this one particular unnamed but very popular drink stall. Serving unique drinks that will quench your thirst after a long day of fasting.

6. Teluk Bahang
Now, this bazaar may appear small but it doesn’t fall short of the others. The diverse food choices here will definitely knock your socks off. This is where you can find ikan panggang, murtabak and all sorts of typical kuih. And the best part is, there will be fewer crowd here so you know it is slightly safer than the other big and crowded bazaar.
Address: Jalan Mahkamah, Kampung Perlis, 11900 Bayan Lepas, Pulau Pinang
7. Balik Pulau
Balik Pulau Ramadan Bazaar is probably one of the largest bazaars in Penang. Located in front of the Balik Pulau District Mosque, you can find almost anything you need here. Enjoy grilled fish, cockles, and squid when you get nasi kandar at one of its stalls. Additionally, fried donuts and spring rolls are also very popular here.
Address: Mukim G, Kampung Paya, 11000 Balik Pulau, Penang
8. Tanjung Tokong
This bazaar is huge! It was situated on a narrow street back then but thanks to the recent renovation, we have a space specifically for bazaars and night markets. With a lot of local Malay food to choose from, the area can get quite crowded. According to reviews, Wawasan Bihun Sup stall and Mini Murtabak stall definitely deserves attention from the mass.
Address: Jalan Tanjung Tokong Lama, 10470 Tanjung Tokong, Pulau Pinang.
9. Bukit Jambul Complex
Held at the Promenade Area of Kompleks Bukit Jambul, there will be a huge display of not only local delights to buka puasa to but there will also be clothes on sale. Don’t miss out on this bazaar as you can pamper your palates with real good feasts AND start browsing for baju raya.
Address: Jalan Rumbia, Kampung Seberang Paya, 11900 Bayan Lepas, Pulau Pinang
10. Jelutong
Travel just a little bit out of George Town and you’ll find this bazaar chock full of your favourite local dishes. A typical sight here would be big barrels of fruit juices, traditional kuih, and preserved dates. The menu tends to repeat itself among stalls but it’s not as crowded as other bazaars which means that you might actually get your choice of food.
Address: Jln Penang, George Town, 10050 George Town, Pulau Pinang
Support Local Vendors And Stalls
As we are all aware, a lot of our local vendors are trying to get back on their feet. So make sure to visit some of these bazaars to show your support. Hopefully, by operating Ramadan Bazaar this year, the vendors will be able to start anew.
