First, there was the World Heritage Day on the 7th of July that came by and left a mark of glory in the hearts of many and George Town Festival are gearing up with back to back events from the 4th of July till 2nd of September with events blending culture, heritage, art and community around the globe.
Thus we’ve figured with the venturing and the planned out itinerary, ‘where should we eat today? ‘, a question that sucks the soul out of human should be left to us and for you to sway in with the trust we won’t let you down. This time we’ve collaborated with George Town Festival to brainstorm and pick the top 9 cafes in Georgetown that are in a constant search by both locals and tourists for an exquisite gastronomy, ambiance, service and ultimately good food.

WHAT’S NOT TO LOVE? In the era of Instagram story updates,ootd’s and cake hunting, China House is undoubtfully the heart in the scene of cafes mushrooming around with their ability to turn a simple space into a hip gastronomy featuring live band performances on Fridays, Saturday, and Sundays with more than 20 types of cakes made with lots of butter,quality ingredients and love to fill that tummy.

2. Ome by Spacebar Coffee
Is Ome pronounced like ‘Aum’ or o-me you may wonder? Joachim Leong and Shean Tan previously based in Kl decided Penang was their home and wanted the same for the visitors and so home became ‘Ome’. Specialised in coffee to suit the preference of each person’s need, all you gotta do is wake up and find your way there for a devil-free kick start. Other than coffee and tea, Ome will also offer Tan’s baked goods such as olive oil zucchini bread, butter pound loaf, bread pudding and banana sesame bread.

3. SiTiGun
If you thought Mcdonalds Apple pie was it, you’re in for a treat at his pit stop cafe located into the corner of Nagore Square. Having traveled around some parts of the world using bicycle the owners of this cafe is to ditch your vehicle behind and take a ride the old-school style. Thus, inspired by a laid-back style, this Sitigun Cafe invites you over for a cup of coffee, apple pie and for a chat or possibly a bike ride around town.

4. Constant Gardener Coeffe
Wanna have some coffee talk? Head here! Literate in the process of water filtration, grams of coffee beans and temperatures among others, it’s a lucky day to know more.
Devoted to producing authentic coffees without breaking the bank account, this spot is ideal for the coffee aficionado and budget trackers. From the friendly staff to unexpected coffee beans you get to indulge yourself with, it’s a constant exciting affair you get to explore as the city lights dim as it one of the very few cafes that are open till late night!

A retreat to a greeny wonderland filled with terrariums and plenty of plants offering a serene and tranquil ambiance, this restaurant defined in Chinese as a 单, single, offers an experience only one can hope for. Can it get better? Yes with their dedication to matcha from their cake to a latte for both taste and health purpose, get disconnected from the outside world, enjoy the moments, and perhaps you will get a refreshing start in the life.
7. Fuku
Combining both a souvenir shop and a tasty adventure for the Japanophiles. dessert hoppers and coffee (ugh) Fuku Eatery & Dessert combined with Mano Plus will keep the curiosity and the appetite both in check.
Worth mentioning: Omu Tori Karaage (RM 17). Bestseller omu curry rice topped with runny omelet raisins and fried chicken smothered with a distinctively flavored curry, it’s a Japanese affair without Japan.

8. Sekeping Victoria
It has the dilapidated industrial look with a different feel from what one expects from the crop of chic cafes sprouting up all over Penang. Awesome Paleo-inspired dishes, burgers, Japanese dons, artisanal coffee and in-house cakes and more in the beautiful, serene space of Sekeping Victoria.
Paleo diet? Speaking English, paleo diet practiced during the Paleolithic era in Stone Age, which dates from approximately 2.5 million to 10,000 years ago uses ‘hunting and gathering food’ such as basic ingredients to create a healthy meal.
9. Macallum Connoisseurs
Founded by 6 Penang-born entrepreneurs that are passionate about coffee knowledge and culture, Macallum Connoisseurs which is located at the heart of the Georgetown City, a 50-year old, 12,000 square feet warehouse-turned cafe aims to be the standard hub where they gather genuine coffee lovers by showcasing everything one needs to know about coffee.
