Did you guys know that there are plenty of fun things to do in Penang besides eating? No, we don’t mean hiking up Penang Hill or going for an adventure-filled trip to Escape Theme Park. Let us introduce to you this brand new spot that is less taxing but equally fun: The Wizherd, Museum of Magics & Illusions. Keep scrolling for more fun and keep an eye out for the opening promotion at the end of your read. Psst; there’s no magic going on here, this place really does exist.
The Location
The Wizherd, Museum of Magics & Illusions is located in a warehouse along Gat Lebuh Cecil. It was quite the challenge locating this spot on the first visit as the signboard was yet to be put up and it was almost like a magical gimmick when we manage to spot it. Abacadabra! And the museum is right in front of our eyes. But no worries guys, you can easily spot this place as the huge signboard is helpful to patrons passing by the warehouse. Plenty of parking spots in the warehouse so that’s another thing you won’t have to worry about. Are you ready to begin this magical journey?
The Experience
Upon your first encounter, you will be greeted by a colourful 3 x 3 Rubik’s Cube as a sign of mystery unsolved. Then, you will be guided to enter an area of total darkness through the doors of the Rubik’s Cube.
Be prepared to enter into a whole new mysterious, magical-filled dimension!
Panic Zone
Once you enter through the doors of the Rubik’s cube, darkness isn’t the only thing that greets you but you will also hear a fire alarm and this is not for those with a faint heart. This is actually a warning to guests about the fun times ahead as the doors will be opened after approximately 30 seconds. So no need to panic guys, you’re in no danger but you’ve only signed up for more FUN!
Glow In The Dark Photo Backdrops
When you exit the panic area, you will be greeted by several photo-worthy backdrops. Wait! Did we say the backdrops all GLOW IN THE DARK? This means that you should totally wear anything white to experience the glow in the dark magic. If glow in the dark isn’t exciting enough, there is a box of props for you to unravel. (Time to glow up your Insta feed!)
Vortex Tunnel
Moving on, the next exciting element in this museum is the vortex tunnel. This may very well be the first vortex tunnel in Penang so you know what to do right? Essentially, a vortex tunnel allows visitors to experience momentary vertigo and loss of balance as they walk through the path with a secured hand-rails. If you would love to know in detail why your feet are wobbly during the walk, the friendly staff at The Whizerd will explain them to you.
Facts & Histories Of Magic
Are you guys prepared to up your knowledge about all things magic? You will be guided by the staff as you are introduced and briefed to some of the world renowned magicians like David Copperfield, Doug Henning and many more.
Story time! Did you know that this famous magician, Chung Ling Soo is actually an American despite his seemingly Chinese style of dressing? We won’t spoil the fun here with more fun facts so if you wanna know more about Chung Ling Soo, head over to The Wizherd and hear them out for yourselves. (No spoiler alert here guys)
Magic Tools & Concepts
When you’re done with the histories and facts about magic, they also have an entire wall dedicated to displaying magical tools used all over the world and they are placed in glass cases.
If you love the show Now You See Me which revolves around magical illusions, you’ll be familiar with Harry Houdini. Houdini is renowned for his escape boxes stunt, in which he frees himself from confined containers without any injuries. Isn’t it amazing to see the tools used by this famous magician?
Remember how we used to see magic tricks of an object floating in the air with seemingly no support system? This is called the concept of suspension. How about an adorable rabbit that changes into feathers in the blink of an eye? That’s known as substitution. Now you can impress your friends with all the typical magical concepts.
Rare Collection Of Card Decks
Enclosed in a large glass container in the middle of the room are rare, collectable card decks where some are priced up to RM 5000 for a deck. If you look closely, you’ll see why they are so costly; each deck is unique in its own way. One particular card deck is comic-themed, there’s a story on the back side of the deck. How cool is that?
Mirror Maze
Moving on to more awesome magic-filled adventure is the mirror maze. In here, you’ll see an infinity display of yourselves and your friends. That’s not all, the challenge in this area is to locate the exit. As you will see nothing but reflections of yourself, this challenge requires you to use your sense of touch. Think you can take the lead and guide your friends to safety? A friendly word of caution: you might bump into your head thinking that’s an exit.

No museum trip is complete without photo opp right? The Whizerd is aware of this which is why there is plenty of photo opp after your walk through the information-filled journey about magic. Time to strike a pose!
