For those of you who didn’t know, HINO Poncho is the first low floor minibus with 7-meter length in the world. Hino Motors Sales (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Hino) and Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd (Rapid Bus) have joined hands and brought in the minibus to manoeuver around challenging routes and narrow roads. Here’s a fun fact. Malaysia is chosen as the first country in Southeast Asia to have the HINO Poncho in its public transportation fleet!

After successfully completing its first trial run in Kuala Lumpur for two months in 2019, HINO Poncho is finally making their trial debut in Penang. It will cater to route 11: Pengkalan Weld to Batu Lanchang, and route 201: Pengkalan Weld to Tingkat Paya, Terubong.

Some might ask “why do we need a minibus?” First off, it’s much smaller compared to current busses which are 10 to 12 meter length, making it ideal to navigate through narrow city residential and low ridership areas. Not to mention its low floor design also made it easier for senior citizen, children, and wheelchair bound passengers to board.

In Japan, there are more than 2,000 units of HINO Poncho manoeuvring within the busy cities and narrow road. It is able to cater up to 31 including standing passengers. Question: Who’s excited to take a ride in one of these minibuses?
