As this happens, many Malaysians face retrenchment. So is this flight crew couple who lost their jobs in the aviation industry. Now, they’ve started their own Nasi Lemak Wakzee stall in MS Food Court, Penang.
Nasi Lemak Wakzee: A Business Run By Ex-Flight Crew In Penang
Hana and Zee both worked for Malindo Air; Hana was a flight attendant while Zee was in flight catering. Last year, the couple were unfortunately retrenched because of the dip in the aviation industry.
But this did not hold them back, they came out stronger by starting up their very own business selling Nasi Lemak. Named Nasi Lemak Wakzee, this micro-business is managed by the couple and Hana’s mother. Utilizing her bilingual skills, Hana converses fluently in the Hokkien dialect, English, and Malay to customers.
Currently, Nasi Lemak Wakzee serves 4 types of Nasi Lemak starting from RM1.50 per packet. (standard, chicken, fish, prawn, or mix). Aside from Nasi Lemak, you can also find different types of fried fritters here like Pisang Goreng, Cucur Udang, Cekodok Pisang, and many more.
The ingredients in the banana-leaf wrapped Nasi Lemak is being prepared fresh daily including rice, Kuah, and toppings. Each packet is fragrant as you unwrap it to reveal fragrant Nasi Lemak drenched with spicy savoury Kuah.
