Lotus’s Malaysia was formerly, or better known as Tesco Malaysia. Having 62 outlets nationwide, they’re the largest retailer in the country to stop distributing single-use plastic bags to consumers as of 1st of July 2021.

In fact, this initiative had already started at Lotus’s Penang E-Gate on June 15. Followed by Lotus’s Desa Tebrau and will be practiced at the remaining 60 Lotus’s stores nationwide by July 1.

Previously, the state government announced that most shops, supermarkets and shopping centres will not give you a plastic bag no matter what from Monday to Wednesday. Plastic bags are only available from Thursday to Sunday at RM1 each.

Lotus’s Malaysia’s pioneer initiative will help change the consumer behaviour and make a greener impact on the environment. It is also worth mentioning that shoppers who use their own reusable bags all Lotus’s Malaysia stores will earn eight Clubcard points for each bag they bring.

The points can later turn into cash vouchers. We must say this is such a great way to encourage more people to reduce the use of plastic bags and be sustainable. Kudos to Lotus’s Malaysia for such great effort! Foodies, don’t forget to bring your own reusable bags when you shop, not only at Lotus’s but at other shops as well. That’s all, take care and buh bye!
