Here at Penang Foodie, we’ve catered to all you hungry, passionate foodies by introducing countless of latest, delicious eats on a daily basis. On one fine day, a sudden realization hit us which made us think to ourselves, why not introduce eats that our editors consider as their personal favourites?
With that, here’s a new column specially dedicated to you foodies who’d like a little sneak peek into the food lives of our editors. Also, we’ll be doing this on a monthly basis and what’s more exciting than getting to try favourites behind the team which helped you discover your favourites? If you’re looking for comfort food, you’ve got to try the Char Siew and Siew Yuk over at Wai Kee Chicken Rice. The aromatic, crispy on the outside yet tender on the inside Char Siew is what makes them the star of the meal. Pairing the plain rice and choy sum/chai sim with the Char Siew is a must as it gives your palates an out-of-the-world adventure. Over at Wai Kee Chicken Rice, its simplicity that’s packed with flavour.

This is a Muslim-friendly eatery.
Alamak has already opened its 3rd joint in Penang and this is a testament to its good food. While they are known for the Nasi Lemak Chicken and Susu Harimau Nangis, The Zinger Chicken Burger + Melted Cheese featuring crispy fried chicken patty, coated with generous amount of melted cheese, and chilli mayo as sauce makes it worthy a spot on this list. For a burger this delicious that is priced at only RM12.90, this burger is one of the best catch in town!

Eggs in between slices of bread is common among every type of sandwich but here at 隔壁老王 Mr. Wang, you’ll get a unique rendition of Japanese egg sandwich known as Tamago-katsu Sando. They incorporate tamago, sweet Japanese egg in between deep-fried bread paired with their signature sauce. The result? An extraordinary bite of the perfect egg sandwich. Honestly, who even knew something this perfect existed? With a wide variety of Japanese sandwiches that you can hardly find elsewhere, you’ll definitely be spoiled for choice.

No one would say no to a bowl of Unagi Don with runny egg yolk that gushes out onto the soy-sauce soaked rice the moment you poke on it with your fork (tempting right?) This Unagi Don has its bowl filled with generous slices of Unagi topped with chopped scallions for enhancement of flavour. One slice of perfectly marinated terriyaki unagi with a spoonful of rice coated with egg yolk is THE method to do this bowl of Unagi Don its rightful justice.

Vanilla ice-cream and hot fudge on a fresh homemade brownie, topped with chopped walnuts, chocolate sprinkles, whipped cream and a cherry. Hard Rock Cafe’s brownies is a definite must-try as it has a good texture; crumbly on the outside, and moist on the inside. The ice-cream servings and chopped walnuts are very generous! Hard Rock Cafe is beautifully decorated with Instagram-worthy memorabilias that are good conversation starters.

There are many elements that must be taken into account in order to create a Rojak that is savour-licious to many; the freshness of the fruits, crispiness of the youtiao as well as the star of the Rojak, its sauce. At Rojak Orang Hitam Putih, the sauce is homemade and this complements the fruits and youtiao to a whole new level of perfection. What makes this Rojak stand out among others is their crushed-peanut as base AND topping for extra dose of crispiness. If you reside in Bukit Mertajam, you’re in for some delicious rojak luck.

Daynite Cafe has a lot to offer on their menu but their Grilled Lamb is a must order as the tender meat of the lamb is grilled to perfection. Pairing the grilled lamb with black pepper sauce drizzled with cheese creates a melt-in-your-mouth experience that leaves you craving for more. Not only is this restaurant Halal but its ample space also makes it a go to celebration spot.

At The BRGR Cafe, there are up 10 types of burgers; each being inspired by a certain country. Our country of Malaysia has inspired the Nasi Lemak Fried Chicken Burger while Korea has inspired the Korea Spicy Grilled Chicken. In attempting the Aloha Fried Chicken Burger, the tender yet juicy fried chicken patty topped with pineapple slice and drizzled with in-house sauce transports you over for a Hawaiian vacation. One munch of this burger and its love at first bite.

Meanwhile, Akasha Eating House introduces salted egg yolk into its menu by cooking up a top notch plate of Salted Egg Yolk Chicken Chop that you definitely wont get enough of. The Salted Egg Yolk Chicken Chop consists of aromatic and thick salted egg yolk sauce which goes well with the perfectly coated, fried till crispy piece of chicken chop.
