Today, Penang recorded a new daily high with 867 cases. Hours ago, Majlis Bandaraya Seberang Perai has ordered the closure of Bukit Mertajam Market. In addition to that, the market has to close for 10 days until 13th August 2021, or until further notice.
Bukit Mertajam Market To Close For A 2nd Time
According to the statement, there are 13 positive cases recorded at Bukit Mertajam Market. Furthermore, this will be the market’s second closure after the first time back in May 2021.

The 10-day closure is to allow Pejabat Kesihatan Daerah Seberang Perai Tengah to carry out close contact tracing as well as thorough sanitization works. A total of 404 traders and 11 MBSP officers at the market will be undergoing swab tests.

MBSP also urged those identified as close contacts to undergo swab tests immediately. All traders at Bukit Mertajam Market are encouraged to abide by the closure and cease all operations until 13th August 2021.
