5 Simple Rice Cooker Recipes That You Need To Try At Home

Time flies over us and we are soon approaching the middle of April. If there is one thing that we have mastered during the stay-at-home period, it has to be our cooking skills, right? Attempting fancy recipes that you have always wanted to try and you realise that the sink is full of dishes to wash. To make it easy for everyone, we found 5 simple recipes that you can make using only a pot rice cooker.

5 Simple Rice Cooker Recipes That You Need To Try At Home

1. Red Bean Soup With Glutinous Rice Balls

When it comes to healthy sweet desserts, nothing can beat a bowl of hearty Red Bean Soup. It’s sweet. It’s rich. But most importantly, it’s healthy too! Perfect during any time of the day, this is an easy Tongshui recipe that gathers your family around the table!

Ingredients: 100g red bean, 100g glutinous rice flour, 70g water, 200ml milk, rock sugar.

Step 1: Before you start, soak red bean in water for more than 3 hours.

Step 2: Pour the red bean and water into the rice cooker and add 800ml of water. Start the rice cooker.

Step 3: While the red bean is cooking, it’s time to make the glutinous rice ball. Add water to the glutinous rice flour and knead into small rice balls.

Step 4: Boil a pot of water and cook the rice balls. When it starts to float on the surface, remove the rice ball and put it aside.

Step 5: When the red bean soup is ready, add some rock sugar and milk. Then add the glutinous rice ball and mix.

2. Claypot Rice

You might be confused with the name of this dish. Alright, here’s the spill. To make this delicious Claypot Rice, we are not going to use clay pot. Instead, you only need a rice cooker! Just follow the steps below and a plate of fragrant Claypot rice will be ready within an hour!

Ingredients: 5 Chinese sausages, 10 shiitake mushroom, 1 cup rice, 1 century egg, kailan, soy sauce, dark soy sauce, sesame oil, sugar and lard.

Step 1: Cut mushroom and Chinese sausage into slices and century egg into half. Then, boil the vegetable and put aside.

Step 2: Oil the rice cooker pot with lard and add washed rice. Add more water than usual and start the rice cooker to cook for 20 minutes.

Step 3: Once all the water is absorbed into the rice, add Chinese sausage and shiitake mushroom. Continue to cook for another 15 minutes.

Step 4: While waiting, prepare the sauce on a separate bowl by adding 3 tablespoons of soy sauce, half tablespoon of dark soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of sugar and 1 tablespoon of sesame oil.

Step 5: Open the rice cooker and brush the sides of the pot with more lard to add flavour. Cook for another 10 minutes.

Step 6: Add the boiled vegetable into the rice cooker and cook for 5 minutes. Then add century egg and cook for 1 minute. Drizzle with the prepared sauce and it’s done!

3. Honey Soy Chicken Wings

There are many places that sell chicken wings, but it’s hard to find one that is flavourful, charred and juicy. So why not make your own chicken wings? With only 6 ingredients in this recipe, you’ll be surprised by how easy this is! Oh and remember to wash your hands first before you dig into this finger-licking dish.

Ingredients: Chicken wings, mashed garlic, salt, soy sauce, honey and sesame seeds.

Step 1: Wash the chicken wings and cut two slits on each wing.

Step 2: Mix mashed garlic, salt, soy sauce, honey and chicken wings in a bowl and marinate for at least 30 minutes.

Step 3: Place the chicken wings in the rice cooker, the skin side face down and add the remaining marinade sauce. Start the rice cooker.

Step 4: Halfway through cooking, turn the chicken wings to the other side.

Step 5: Once it’s cooked, sprinkle some sesame seeds on the chicken wings and it’s ready to eat!

4. Peach Yogurt Chiffon Cake

Sipping a cup of coffee or tea in the afternoon without any desserts makes your afternoon break somehow incomplete. If you don’t have an oven at home to make some delish cakes or desserts, here is one recipe for you! Furthermore, each piece of cake is only 152kcal! So if you are currently on a diet, this is a good snack for you too.

Ingredients: 5 eggs, 100g cake flour, 10g corn starch, 50g sugar, 170g yogurt and 124g peach.

Step 1: In two clean dry bowls, separate egg white and yolk.

Step 2: Add yogurt with the egg yolks and mix. Then, add cake flour and stir until fully incorporated. Set aside.

Step 3: Beat the egg whites at low speed. Once it starts to foam, add sugar and beat at high speed. Then, add corn starch and beat until stiff peak.

Step 4: Preheat the rice cooker. While waiting, add the egg white mixture into the egg yolk mixture. Fold the mixture together for 3 times until you don’t see the whites.

Step 5: Pour the mixture into the rice cooker. Once small bubbles appear on the surface, add small pieces of peach and start the rice cooker.

Step 6: Once it’s done cooking, wait for another 10 minutes before opening the rice cooker. After 10 minutes, remove the cake and let it cool.

5. Scallion Oil Chicken

Last on the list is a recipe for whole chicken! If you’re someone who is new to making whole chicken dishes, this is a recipe to get you started. With simple steps that are all completed in a rice cooker, we guarantee this is a recipe that yields no failure.

Ingredients: 1 whole chicken, scallion, ginger, 1 tablespoon black pepper, soy sauce,1 tablespoon salt and Vietnamese chili.

Step 1: Clean and chop the whole chicken into smaller pieces. Add salt and black pepper to marinate for 2 hours.

Step 2: Brush some oil on the rice cooker pot and cover the bottom of the pot with ginger and scallion. Then, place the marinated chicken.

Step 3: Start the rice cooker. After it is done cooking, wait for another 5 minutes before opening.

Step 4: Sprinkle with scallion,  Vietnamese chili and drizzle some hot oil and soy sauce.
