According to the Michelin Guide, the owners of Hot Bowl White Curry Mee started a curry mee stall back to 1992, at Dhoby Ghaut Kopitiam near Market Cross in Penang. Each bowl of White Curry Mee paired with their signature chilli paste will leave you wanting to come back for more! But, be mindful that the chilli paste is pretty spicy, even if the colour of the soup doesn’t shine a bright red! The deboned steamed chicken is also a best-selling dish here~

Located at Island Glades, First Genting Cafe is another popular local breakfast spot you’ll come across in Penang! Though they’ve just opened in April 2024, this fairly new kopitiam is always busy and crowded as plenty of famous street food stalls have relocated here. You’ll also notice that almost everyone is sharing a plate of Chee Cheong Fun that comes with peanut butter and shrimp paste, besides enjoying mains like Thai Pork Leg Rice, Curry Mee, Nasi Lemak and more!

No doubt, One Corner Cafe is one of the most popular breakfast spots in Penang! Besides the super famous Hokkien mee which is usually entailed to a 1-hour wait, there are plenty of other food choices here too such as Koay Teow Th’ng, Char Koay Teow, Nyonya Kuih, Chee Cheong Fun, Curry Mee and more. The popular Hokkien Mee comes with a broth that leans toward the sweeter side and is packed with the strong prawn aroma (in other words, a big no no if you’re not a fan of the fishy prawn taste!).
