2. Farquhar Mansion
Foodies, this is on top of our list. We all know that a table at a Chinese restaurant for this festive season ain’t cheap, the price is super cut-throat but the quality is below average. We have no choice but to take it because elsewhere would be the same, so why not try something different this year? Splurge a little more and dine at Farquhar Mansion, a fine dine place well known for its quality. Their menu is specially designed for Chinese New Year, combining both Western and Eastern. Even their Yu Shang stands out from the crowd, carefully plated.

3. Foong Wei Heong Restaurant
Voted as one of the best chinese restaurants in Penang, Foong Wei is well-known by the locals. Similar to Hua Hee, they’re also a chu char place, but prices could range from middle to high depending on the dishes. Make sure to try out their Peking Duck that comes with popiah skin to wrap the duck together with their sauce, so good. Be prepared to queue or make reservation to avoid disappointment, the restaurant is always crowded.

4. Kota Dine & Coffee

Not only Kota serves traditional Peranakan cuisine with a modern twist, it is also set in a historical landmark, Fort Cornwallis. Why “new” ? That’s because CRC has two restaurants with the same name, the old one nestled in CRC Club and the one we’re talking about, is located right opposite CRC Club. CRC restaurant is no stranger to locals, the restaurant takes up one of the most bookings for Chinese New Year each year. The food is great and service is fast, and they have menus especially for this celebration. Plus, they’re open during Reunion and First Day of Chinese New Year. No doubt this is one of the best restaurants in Penang for Chinese New Year.

6. Maple Palace
Opened its door back in September 2009, Maple Palace Chinese Restaurant is a fine dining restaurant in Penang, Malaysia that offers exquisite Chinese and local cuisine as well as warm hospitality in a rustic, historically preserved building. If you want a place that is fancy enough to meet your high standard, Maple Palace is the place. Unfortunately, they’re closed on the First Day of Chinese New Year, but don’t worry you could still dine in on the Second Day 6 p.m. onward. Their Chinese New Year menu looks promising, this is probably one of the best restaurants in Penang for Chinese New Year in terms of food and ambience.

7. Jade Palace Restaurant
This is by far the most convenient restaurant in Penang for Chinese New Year because it’s located in a mall. That’s right, Jade Palace is tucked in Gurney Paragon Mall, so parking won’t be a hassle. Plus, you could have some shopping done before or right after meal with your friends and relatives, best of both world. They have the private room for special occasions but on Reunion and Chinese New Year where the restaurant will be flooded, they’ll open up the rooms and make it into one hall. Their service and food are no doubt a thumbs up.

8. May Garden Palace Restaurant
Located right next to Cititel Hotel, May Garden is always flocked with both locals and tourists as the food there has always been good and will not disappoint. Some of the favorites are Black Chicken Soup, Suckling Pig, Steam Fish and the multi-colored Agar Agar. Don’t forget to order their Wonder Pot (盆菜) and Monk Jump Over The Wall (佛跳墙), it’s a Chinese New Year must-have to promote health and prosperity.
