If you’re familiar with the ‘cha chaan theng’ scene then Hong Kong 8 am should’ve been in your radar since it’s opening. It’s been packed but the wait is definitely worthwhile. While they have limited choices of food, the choices that are available are pretty similar to what they serve in Hong Kong during breakfast time.

2. Trois Canon Cafe

The second you step into this place, you will be transported to an actual ‘cha chaan theng’ in Hong Kong because of the old school interior and decoration in this shop. Besides serving their signature Hong Kong style food, you’re able to get healthier options as well if you’re on a special diet.

3. Liu Bing Shi (六號冰室)

This new place has a huge variety of Hong Kong style food on their menu. From snacks to mains and dessert, you can get it all here. Liu Bing Shi is open for dinner as well so if you never get the opportunity to experience the other Hong Kong style places because of the opening hours, then this is your chance.

4. Hong Kee Bamboo Noodle

Hong Kong is known for its ‘wan thun mee’ and you can enjoy a good bowl of it here. The noodles are made in-house so if you’re lucky, you’ll be able to watch the process of it. A bamboo pole is used to make the dough and Hong Kee might be the only place in Penang that still uses a bamboo pole.

5. Clay Cafe

Besides Hong Kong style food, this place serves fusion style food as well. Most of their food is served in claypot hence the name of the shop. There are various different dishes that are served in a claypot that you should definitely try.

6. HK Boy Cart Noodle

This place allows you to build your own bowl of noodles. Be creative and adventurous with it. Besides their cart noodles, there are various different Hong Kong snacks that you should try as well. Don’t forget to try their curry fish ball, Hong Kong style ‘chee cheong fun’ and milk tea too.

Canning Dim Sum is known for their halal dim sum in Ipoh and there is a branch here in Penang that you should definitely try. The branch that is located in Bayan Baru is pork free and all of their dim sums are served are really fresh. Dim sum is also a staple in the Hong Kong cuisine so you know that we’re definitely going to include at least one dim sum spot in this list.
