So, Budget 2020 included Penang in it, whereby a fund of RM100 million will be allocated to the state for the development and upgrading works of Penang Hill’s cable car. The additional fund would be born by the State Government.

Let’s take a look at the brief history of Penang Hill and its infamous cable car that mapped Penang on the international arena.

The Penang Hill Railway is a one section funicular railway which climbs the Penang Hill from Air Itam, within the city of George Town in Penang. The railway first opened in 1923 as a two-section railway, and the system was overhauled in 2010. The total journey time can take between five and twenty minutes. The funicular train coach travels directly from the lower station to the top, but may stop at other intermediate stations upon request.

Back a few decades ago, Penang Hill Railway was established but it didn’t stand the test of time. Because of that, revamp works in 2010 was necessary. Now, the brand new Penang Hill cable car is more comfortable and even more convenient for both tourists and locals alike.

With the additional fund from the government, Penang Hill’s cable car will undergo major transformation. How keen are you guys for this?
