4. 2062 by Karla Kracht & Andres Beladiez

2062 is an experimental theatrical show about a dystopian world, where the “present” is deemed as the authentic protagonist. Borders, walls, new migrations, current affairs, and economic changes are the key ingredients to this society. The conceptual interdisciplinary show is developed through a combination of formats such as multimedia, comic, illustration and animation techniques. It uses a blend of shadow play and theatre props to create a cinematic live performance.

The world will never be the same again … Borders will turn red again or disappear completely. They will become less accessible. New walls will be built and old ideals will be buried. Wars will be different, but killings will be continued at an ideological gunpoint. Capitalism will spread, covering the terrestrial world with its coat. Governments will lose their power cells to big corporations.

An agonized Europe loses its hegemony. Citizens search for their identities in shopping carts. The 21st century has arrived and changed us forever. But we hardly realize it. Somehow everything continues to be the same…

5. Second Body by Anarchy Dance Theater

A dark stage. A dancer with abstract light projected on her skin. The study of the movement itself. Welcome to the Second Body, the performance generating an out-of-body experience. The performance begins by establishing and examining the body, with light and sound used to create both abstract and very strong recognizable visuals of the natural human body and the way it moves. Movement is used to represent our awareness and knowledge of our own bodies.

Afterwards, a 360º full body-length projection enters the picture to create a non-natural second body, showing movement distinct from the movements of the first body. Do we, during the transition from one to the other, produce new knowledge to define our bodies with the change in our viewing perspective? Furthermore, how does the second body replace the definition and existence of the first body in the process?

In the collaboration between George Town Festival and Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia (TECO) Isle to Isle will be running 12-19 August 2018. Programmes hosted throughout the week will be an effort to showcase and create a discourse on Taiwanese performing arts and design and the use of creative spaces to generate a people-centric experience.
